It’s no secret to anybody that knows me that I love to read. However, I have to be careful when I pick up books. I tend to hyperfocus when I’ve got a good book.
Leadership and Self-Deception was no different for me but luckily for my wife its a quick and easy read. I especially like it because it’s a story driven book. Even though it’s been a while since I’ve read that book its one of the first books I recommend to people. On the surface, it may sound like a business oriented book. But here’s the deal it does use a business line story to teach. For most of us, there isn’t an easy way to separate business from life. This book focuses on our relationship with others and covers those relationships in business as well as in our personal lives affect our entire life. There isn’t an easy way to separate our lives into nice little boxes.
I won’t go into to details here about the book because I don’t feel like I can do it the justice it deserves.
So what the book did for me was to give me some “tools” to check myself. Do I see the person I’m interacting with as a person or an object. When we see people as objects then do we start having problems. Its not an easy shift to make. I still work on it each day.
In fact, I have a niece that will be getting married soon and I’ll most likely get them this book to read.
